Aftercare Process
Understand what happens during healing and how to take care of it.
This is the most important stage of the healing process because proper aftercare helps your tattoo heal well, stay clean, and keep the artwork looking its best. Following the right aftercare steps will also help reduce irritation and protect your skin during recovery.
Important Aftercare Points:
- Keep the protective wrap on for 2–4 hours
- Always wash your hands before touching the tattoo
- Clean gently with lukewarm water and mild soap
- Remove excess plasma, ink, and ointment carefully
- Pat dry with clean tissue or let it air dry
- Do not rub or scratch the tattoo area
- Apply only a thin layer of ointment
- Repeat cleaning 2–3 times daily
- Follow your artist’s aftercare instructions carefully
During this stage, your tattoo may feel warm, tight, or look slightly red as the skin begins the healing process. You may also notice a thin protective layer forming over the tattoo. This is completely normal and part of natural healing. Continue cleaning the tattoo gently and apply a thin layer of ointment to keep the skin protected and moisturized.
Important Healing Points:
- Slight redness is normal
- The tattoo may feel warm or tight
- A light protective layer may start forming
- Continue washing the tattoo gently
- Apply a thin layer of ointment regularly
- Do not scratch or pick the skin
- Keep the tattoo clean and dry
At this stage, your tattoo will begin peeling naturally, similar to mild sunburned skin. The area may feel itchy and the tattoo can appear slightly dull while the skin continues healing. This is a normal part of the recovery process, so avoid touching or forcing the skin to peel. Let your body heal the tattoo naturally and continue following proper aftercare.
Important Healing Points:
- Peeling skin is completely normal
- The tattoo may feel itchy during healing
- The tattoo can look slightly dull temporarily
- Do not scratch the tattoo area
- Do not pick scabs or peeling skin
- Let the skin peel naturally
- Use light fragrance-free moisturizer if recommended
- Keep the tattoo clean and moisturized
During this stage, the peeling will slowly decrease and the tattoo color will begin to settle into the skin more naturally. Your skin may still feel slightly dry, so continue using moisturizer regularly to keep the area hydrated and comfortable while healing continues.
Important Healing Points:
- Peeling will slowly decrease
- Tattoo color will begin to settle
- Skin may still feel slightly dry
- Continue using moisturizer regularly
- Keep the tattoo clean and hydrated
- Avoid heavy sun exposure
- Protect the tattoo during healing
